Shoes For Crews
Dear Jim,
Every December we spend a lot of
time reviewing our previous season Risk Management & Safety programs. For
the past several years the most significant loss factor in our Company Workers'
Compensation history has been "slip & fall" incidents. Due to
the nature of our business we are unable to completely separate employees from
wet and slippery surfaces. However our losses were becoming unacceptable. In
the review of our 2002 season we found we had spent more than $330,000 on slip
& fall accidents. Since Reddy Ice is self-insured these dollars come directly
from our bottom line.
During the strategy session one of
our insurance brokers suggested we look at a "non-slip" shoe policy.
We carefully reviewed the data & were surprised to see how much difference
there was between Shoes For Crews and other products available, particularly
for the price, nothing out there seemed to compare. While we were excited about
the prospects we were also cautious having seen too many safety "wonder"
products.
We implemented our program in January
of 2003. The program covers over 100 production and distribution facilities
in 33 states with employees servicing over 73,000 customers on a daily basis.
I have just been reviewing the results.
Since the implementation of the Reddy
Ice Non-Slip shoe policy featuring Shoes For Crews we have not experienced a
single slip & fall incident. Not one. Results like this speak for themselves.
We are happy to have Shoes For Crews as a Reddy Ice Safety partner and will
gladly be continuing our program into the new year. Thanks for making our department
look good.
Sincerely,
Lee Hatch
